Why are our noses struggling?

Dr Tullett suggests that modern life, with its pollution and artificial scents, is making it harder for us to smell naturally. Our ancestors relied on their noses much more, but now we're surrounded by so many strong, unnatural smells that our ability to detect subtle, important odours might be getting dulled.
