Who were the Anglo-Saxons?

Before the Norman Conquest, Anglo-Saxons were the dominant cultural group in England, formed from Germanic tribes who settled in Britain after the Roman departure. The 'Conquest Man' discovery is interesting because his Scandinavian origins challenge the idea that everyone in England at that time was either Anglo-Saxon or Norman.
