Explained in plain English

Who actually awards knighthoods?

Knighthoods are part of the UK honours system, which recognises public service and achievement. While the Prime Minister's office can hint at recommendations, the actual decision rests with independent honours committees. These committees assess nominations against strict criteria before advising the King, who formally bestows the honour.
