What was the 9/11 disaster?

The '9/11-type disaster' reference harks back to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States. Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial aeroplanes, crashing two into the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon, and one into a field in Pennsylvania, killing nearly 3,000 people.
