Explained in plain English

What is insulin resistance, really?

Insulin resistance is when your body's cells don't respond properly to insulin, the hormone that regulates blood sugar. Your pancreas then tries to compensate by producing more insulin, leading to high levels of both sugar and insulin in the blood. This ongoing struggle damages blood vessels over time.
