What is 'historical revisionism'?

Historical revisionism is when past events are reinterpreted, often with new evidence or perspectives. Sometimes it's a genuine academic process, but it can also be used to push a particular political agenda, like when the Trump administration suggests the Smithsonian's exhibits are 'inaccurate' to promote their own version of history.
