What is cardiac arrest?

Cardiac arrest is when the heart suddenly stops pumping blood around the body. This is a medical emergency, as vital organs like the brain are starved of oxygen. Paramedics and air ambulances, like those attending near Great Wyrley, are equipped to provide immediate life support, including CPR and defibrillation, to try and restart the heart.
