Explained in plain English

What is binge drinking?

Binge drinking means consuming a lot of alcohol in a short period, typically four or more drinks for women and five or more for men within about two hours. It's particularly risky for teenagers because their bodies are less efficient at processing alcohol, leading to higher blood alcohol levels and greater damage to developing brains.
