What is an optional update?

Windows updates often come in two flavours: mandatory and optional. Mandatory updates are automatically installed for security and critical fixes. Optional updates, like this one, offer new features or non-critical improvements that users can choose to install. They often allow early access to features before a wider rollout, letting users test them out.
