What is a Nor'easter?
A Nor'easter is a type of storm that forms along the east coast of North America, named for the strong north-easterly winds it brings. These storms can be very powerful, causing heavy rain or snow, strong winds, and coastal flooding, much like the one affecting New York and New Jersey in the story. They often develop when cold air from Canada meets warm, moist air from the Atlantic Ocean.
