What is a 'half-time sub'?

A half-time substitute is when a player is brought onto the pitch at the interval between the first and second halves of a match. This allows managers to react to the game's flow, address poor performances, or introduce players who can change the dynamic, as Alonso did with Palmer and others to spark Chelsea's comeback.
