What are ALPRs?

Automated Licence Plate Readers (ALPRs) are camera systems that automatically scan and identify vehicle registration plates. They're used by law enforcement to quickly check plates against databases for things like stolen cars or, as in this story, vehicles linked to investigations. This allows police to act rapidly on potential leads.
