How do you compare players from different eras?

Comparing players like Haaland to legends from past eras is tricky because the game changes so much. Things like tactics, training, and even the pitches themselves were different. It's hard to say if Haaland would score as many goals in a 1970s team, or if Pelé would dominate today.
