Explained in plain English
Water tankers are large vehicles that transport potable (drinkable) water. When a major pipe bursts and disrupts the normal supply, as happened in Fairfield, United Utilities uses tankers to deliver water to affected areas. They can either provide bottled water directly to residents or pump water into the local network to maintain some level of supply until repairs are completed.
