Health Secretary Yvette Cooper has announced an extra £140m for urgent care in England, warning the NHS faces a harder winter than usual after a record summer of heat. The money will fund 14 schemes, including new urgent care centres, ambulances and A&E upgrades. Hospitals are already seeing early flu pressures. The Royal College of Nursing welcomed the cash but called it a short-term fix.
