Why Britain's 9,000 Risso's Dolphins Refuse to Breed Abroad
Scientists looked at genetic material from animals found washed up on British coastlines between 1992 and 2016. The tests showed that the UK's estimated 9,000 beakless dolphins refuse to breed with populations from the Azores or Mediterranean Sea. Nicola Hodgins from Mara, a maritime regulator, said this total isolation leaves the local animals with poorer genetic variety.
