What happens next for Marine Le Pen's presidential election future?

A French appeals court will rule on Tuesday, July 7, on whether far-right leader Marine Le Pen can run in the 2027 presidential election. She is appealing a March 2025 conviction for misusing EU funds, which included a five-year ban from public office. If the ban remains, Jordan Bardella, the National Rally president, would likely become the party's candidate.
