What happens as Italy's heat alert peaks?

Nearly all of Italy reaches the top heat alert by Monday, after officials placed 19 major cities on red alert Saturday. All but two of Italy's 27 monitored cities, Reggio Calabria and Messina, will hold the same warning, which flags danger for healthy people too. Temperatures in Rome and Milan are forecast to climb into the high 30s Celsius as the heatwave intensifies.
