War destroying cultural sites globally, but holding those responsible is difficult

Conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan and Iran are badly damaging ancient sites and monuments, including six Unesco-protected sites in Odesa. Legal frameworks exist to protect cultural heritage in war zones, but prosecuting those responsible is proving hard in practice. Only one case has ever been successfully brought at the International Criminal Court, with just one conviction.
