Walking faster could protect your brain from ageing, says neurologist

A neurologist says keeping a fast walking speed could help your brain stay healthier as you get older. Dr Joe Verghese, a researcher at Stony Brook University, discovered that individuals over 80 who walk significantly faster for their age, termed "super movers", experience a 50% reduction in their risk of developing cognitive impairment. He recommends maintaining a brisk walking speed of approximately 3 miles per hour for a minimum of 30 minutes daily to increase the likelihood of achieving this.
