UN votes to replace world map, correcting Africa's 'true size'

164 countries backed the move on Friday to adopt the 2018 Equal Earth projection, with only the US voting against it. The African Union pushed for the change because the standard layout from 1569 makes the continent look much smaller than places like Greenland or Russia. The resolution isn't mandatory, but it urges schools, tech companies and governments to stop using the old model.
