UK warns travellers of deadly methanol in drinks in 29 countries

The UK government has launched a new "Know the Signs" campaign, backed by bereaved families, to warn holidaymakers about methanol poisoning. Methanol, a toxic industrial alcohol often found in counterfeit drinks, can cause blindness or death from as little as 10ml or 30ml respectively. Travellers should avoid homemade or street-sold alcohol and choose sealed, branded drinks from reputable venues in the 29 affected destinations.
