UK plans new laws to stop AI making bioweapons

The UK government intends to regulate artificial intelligence in gene synthesis, concerned that the absence of global rules might facilitate the creation of biological weapons. Ministers are considering new biological weapons legislation, which involves modifying current statutes to implement gene synthesis screening. New gene synthesis screening would require labs to check customer legitimacy and report any concerning genetic sequences to authorities.
