UK food import spending hits record high, raising supply fears

The UK spent a record £33.1bn on food imports during the first six months of the year, marking the highest figure recorded since 2000. Concerns have intensified regarding the nation's food self-sufficiency, particularly following the warmest summer ever recorded. Exports of British food also slumped by 3.4% to £12bn, resulting in a £21.1bn trade gap.
