Diesel averaged 198.32p a litre on Friday, just short of the 199.09p record from 2022, and the RAC expects that record to fall imminently. The RAC says UK diesel is now the most expensive in Europe, 12p a litre dearer than in Finland and the Netherlands. Diesel is up 55p a litre since 28 February, and a family car fill-up costs about £109.
