UK data shows electric cars now cheaper

Drivers could pay less upfront for some new vehicles. Figures from Auto Trader show average battery models now cost less than petrol ones for the first time, based on current listings in 2026. The gap stands at £785, with typical prices about £42,620 for electric compared with roughly £43,405 for petrol models.
