UK announces £1.5B for electric vehicle support
Next Wednesday's Budget is expected to include a significant investment package for electric vehicle support, with reports varying on the total amount, citing figures between £1.5 billion and £2 billion. Of this, £1.3 billion is allocated to the Electric Car Grant. Charging infrastructure will receive £200 million. Separately, reports indicate a new pay-per-mile tax of 3p for EV drivers is planned to start in 2028, following a consultation period. This new tax could cost the average driver approximately £250 each year. The Conservatives have criticised the policy, calling it “tone-deaf, big-spending nonsense”.
