UAE plans new port to avoid Strait of Hormuz as shipping disruptions grow

DP World is planning a new port and container terminal in Fujairah on the Gulf of Oman, allowing cargo to reach the UAE without crossing the Strait of Hormuz. The Financial Times reported the project accelerated after activity at Jebel Ali reportedly fell by up to 90-95% during the latest disruption. Company officials said the new facilities could open within 18 months, while stressing Jebel Ali will remain the country's main trade hub.
