Train driver Shaun Burton accelerated past a red signal before 19 June Bedford crash

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch's interim findings indicated that 60-year-old train driver Shaun Burton recognised a red signal yet maintained his acceleration. Subsequently, his East Midlands Railway service, travelling towards London, collided with the rear of a different train close to Elstow, Bedford, on 19 June. More than 160 people were injured in the collision, which happened about 2.5 miles south of Bedford station.
