TikTok to pay £12.7m penalty for failing to protect children

TikTok will pay a £12.7 million penalty to the UK's data regulator, having withdrawn its challenge to a 2023 decision. The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) fined the company for not doing enough to keep children under 13 off its platform. In 2020, the ICO calculated that as many as 1.75 million children under 13 in the UK were using TikTok.
