Three Arrested in London Area on Russian Espionage Charges as UK Targets Foreign Intelligence Networks

British counter-terrorism police arrested three individuals in Essex on suspicion of assisting Russian intelligence services under the National Security Act. The suspects, two men aged 41 and 46 and a 35-year-old woman, were detained in mid-September 2025 and released on conditional bail. Counter Terrorism Command warns of growing use of local proxies by foreign intelligence networks, amid mounting evidence of Russian espionage operations expanding across Europe since the invasion of Ukraine.
