Thousands of new mums may have undiagnosed PTSD after birth
A University of East Anglia study determined that one in 20 new mothers develop post-traumatic stress disorder following a challenging pregnancy or birth. Researchers are now calling for better care and clearer guidelines for GPs to help identify symptoms and assess risk. Maternal suicides continue to be the primary cause of death for women within a year of pregnancy.
