Thin diamond films generate electricity when bent, scientists discover
The unexpected discovery overturns a 100-year-old scientific assumption that diamonds could not produce electricity from mechanical deformation. Ultrathin, flexible diamond membranes were produced by a research team at the University of Hong Kong. Bending the membrane built up electrical charge around its internal grain boundaries, creating a measurable voltage.
