Tata Steel says new import rules put its UK plants at risk
Tata fears that raising tariff-free import quotas will flood Britain with cut-price metal from countries like Vietnam and India. Industry insiders are confused by the new allowances, which let Vietnam send up to 174,000 tonnes a year instead of 51,000. Bosses say strict environmental rules make it impossible for domestic sites, like the Llanwern plant in South Wales, to compete fairly.
