Six Banks Picked to Launch Britain's First Blockchain Gilt

The Treasury has appointed Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, Morgan Stanley, NatWest and RBC Capital Markets to lead the pilot sale of DIGIT, Britain's first digitally native government bond. The short-dated gilt will use distributed ledger technology to deliver on-chain settlement inside the Digital Securities Sandbox, separate from normal debt issuance. Economic Secretary Lucy Rigby KC said the launch, expected by early 2027, supports Britain's digital-assets ambitions.
