Seven people have been arrested after fireworks were set off near police officers and vehicles in Birmingham city centre. West Midlands Police said those held, aged between 15 and 26, were arrested on suspicion of offences including assault and carrying fireworks or an offensive weapon. Officers used stop-and-search powers around Corporation and Stephenson streets. The force had promised action after last year's Bonfire Night trouble.
