Scientists find two new subatomic structures in unexpected particle search

Physicists at Jefferson Lab were searching for one exotic particle but found evidence for two different, unexpected structures. These new signals may help them understand XYZ states, which don't fit the usual way particles are built from quarks. The discoveries could clarify how fundamental forces combine to create matter, according to the GlueX Collaboration.
