Science labs face £160m funding cut despite record UK research spending
Some of the UK's leading research facilities are set to reduce their project scope, following an announcement from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) that it will save over £160 million. Planned research costs have spiralled, even though the government's overall R&D spending has increased to £22.6 billion a year by 2029-30. Boulby Underground Laboratory's budget will be cut by 40%, while the Daresbury Lab and Rutherford Appleton Lab's computing departments will lose £10 million yearly.
