Record number of students expected to get first choice university place

Hundreds of thousands of students in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland will get their A-level, AS, and vocational results on Thursday. Jo Saxton, chief executive of Ucas, expects a record number of 18-year-olds to secure their first-choice university place this year. Clearing is also available for those who didn't meet offers or changed their minds, with nearly 22,700 courses open on Wednesday.
