Record Everest climbs leave highest camp a 26,000ft garbage problem
The uppermost camp on Mount Everest has transformed into a massive accumulation of refuse, with discarded tents and human excrement spread ubiquitously. Videos show Camp IV, at 26,000ft, covered in trash left by climbing groups after a record 274 people scaled the peak in May. The unprecedented 494 permits issued by Nepal this season have rendered high-altitude cleanup operations extremely hazardous.
