Jose Mourinho, Real Madrid's coach, excluded French defender Ferland Mendy from the European squad despite including other injured players. Mendy, who sustained an injury late last season, was omitted from the official UEFA list that the club submitted. His notable absence comes as Mourinho finishes his team ahead of their opening game against Inter Milan.
