Readers rate AI-written stories as higher quality than human ones

A new study found participants rated short stories generated by ChatGPT as more absorbing and better quality than human-authored ones. Researchers asked 1,682 adults to read one of six stories, three by humans and three by AI, then rate them. However, people also rated stories more highly when they were informed these were written by humans, irrespective of the actual author.
