Pound falls below $1.35 as gas prices hit a three-year high

The UK currency recently dropped to €1.16, its weakest exchange rate against the euro since late June. This slump means imported foreign goods cost more to buy, adding to growing worries over future household and business energy bills. British wholesale gas costs have just reached a three-year peak, while the benchmark Brent crude oil hit $96 a barrel.
