Police make 169 arrests on Notting Hill Carnival's first day

Police made 169 arrests on Sunday, which marked the beginning of Notting Hill Carnival, for offences including drug and weapon possession, assaults, and sexual offences. Commander Claire Smart, leading the policing operation, said the mood was "overwhelmingly positive and celebratory" despite the incidents. Over 7,000 officers were deployed for the 60th anniversary event, with day two set for Monday.
