PlayStation will stop making disc games from 2028 due to costs

Gaming analyst Piers Harding-Rolls considers Sony's transition to entirely digital distribution from 2028 to be a sensible progression. Physical editions add costs for production, logistics, and retail, while digital sales give Sony and publishers more revenue. The shift is seen as "generational planning" to manage rising console production costs and boost profitability.
