Over 150 protest council plan to expand Leicester into nearby villages

On August 6, residents and councillors assembled outside the Leicestershire County Council headquarters to object to proposals for a new "Leicester Council". The expansion would include towns and villages like Oadby, Wigston, and Syston from April 2028, abolishing existing councils. During an emergency meeting, councillors voted 45 to one to condemn the Government's proposals.
