Over 1.2 million people in England and Wales claim PIP for musculoskeletal conditions

Figures from July 2026 show that over 1.2 million people in England and Wales are getting Personal Independence Payment for muscle and joint conditions. Personal Independence Payment provides support for individuals experiencing additional living expenses due to a long-term physical or mental health condition and challenges with everyday activities. The DWP's data lists 86 specific musculoskeletal conditions that people receiving PIP have.
