OpenAI's AGI deployment chief steps down due to illness

Fidji Simo, OpenAI's chief executive of AGI deployment, is leaving her full-time role to become a part-time adviser after taking a monthslong medical leave. She has a worsening neuroimmune condition, postural tachycardia syndrome, and needs to focus on her recovery. Simo joined OpenAI's board in March 2024 and was hired by CEO Sam Altman to lead product and business.
