One million low earners could miss out on average £53 tax relief
HMRC is sending letters to about one million low earners, mostly women, who missed out on an average of £53 in tax relief on pension contributions. Former pensions minister Steve Webb warned many people might mistake the letters for a scam and not claim their money. The letter-writing campaign starts this month and will continue into 2027.
