Oil prices hit $100 a barrel after US strikes on Iranian tankers

Brent crude rose over two per cent on Wednesday morning to reach its highest price since July. The increase happened after American forces attacked several Iranian vessels on Tuesday night, which officials described as payback for attempted strikes on a Navy warship. Andrew Bailey, the Bank of England governor, told MPs that the ongoing fighting risks pushing up consumer energy costs next year.
